Paul, Eversheds Sutherland, Niles Elber, Caplin & Drysdale, Thomas Curteman, Jr., Office of Chief Counsel, IRS and Hank Kea, Field Collection Operations, IRS on “Avoiding or Not Avoiding Evasion of Payment Prosecutions & the Civil Aftermath” at this year’s Federal Bar Association’s 44th Annual Tax Law Conference, Thursday, March 5th, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, D.C.  Click Here for more information.

The panel will address the increasing frequency of evasion of payment prosecutions arising out of I.R.S. Collection and employment tax matters. Most collection and employment tax matters start as civil matters. The panel will discuss what practitioners can do to assist in keeping the matter civil and how
to prevent the matter from becoming criminal. Finally, the panel will discuss the prosecution and defenses in evasion of payment cases and the civil aspects following conviction, including restitution issues.
