Marc Montano’s focus is on representation of clients in civil and criminal tax litigation and investigations. Mr. Montano joined the firm in 2026 while attending NYU Law School, where he received his LL.M. in Taxation.
Mr. Montano has worked on a variety of matters focusing on tax controversy and litigation, criminal and civil fraud, including assisting in representing a client in a multi-week criminal tax jury trial. Mr. Montano’s work includes complex civil tax matters, including assisting in representing clients under examination before the IRS Global High Wealth Program.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Montano interned with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel where he worked on matters including a case stemming from one of the largest tax fraud cases in history of over $7 billion in fraudulent tax deductions. His experience at the IRS included successfully arguing a Motion to Dismiss before the U.S. Tax Court, working on tax shelter cases before trial and matters before the IRS Independent Office of Appeals.
Mr. Montano also interned with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, where he drafted decisions on dispositive motions, bench memoranda involving the Federal Rules of Evidence and constitutional law and assisted during preparations for mediations and civil and criminal trials. While in law school, Mr. Montano also worked as a law clerk for another private firm on matters involving criminal prosecutions and a successful defense in a bankruptcy trial involving allegations of fraud.
Mr. Montano received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, where he served on the editorial board on three journals: the DePaul Law Review; the DePaul Business & Commercial Law Journal; and the DePaul Journal of Art, Technology & Intellectual Property Law. He was a competition member of the nationally recognized DePaul Law National Trial Team. While in law school, Mr. Montano was an Illinois Supreme Court ATJ Selected Representative, the recipient of the Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship, the Dean’s Scholarship, the Asian American Law Scholarship (two-time recipient), the FALA Chicago Scholarship, the Katherine Wiseman Leadership Award, and the Benjamin Hooks Public Service Award.
