FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – President Trump Announces Intent to Nominate CHARLES P. RETTIG to be the Next Commissioner of Internal Revenue

HOCHMAN SALKIN RETTIG TOSCHER AND PEREZ, PC is honored to announce that President Trump has announced his intention to nominate Charles P. (“Chuck”) Rettig to become the next Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.  If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Chuck would be the 49th IRS Commissioner, the first “tax person” to assume that position since 1997 and only the second confirmed Commissioner to be from California.

Chuck has been with Hochman Salkin for more than 35 years and most recently served as its managing principal. The firm was established in 1960 and specializes in tax matters with an emphasis on civil administrative tax controversies and tax litigation, defending criminal tax investigations and prosecutions, and related white-collar enforcement matters throughout the United States.

Steven Toscher of the Firm stated that “we could not be more pleased and honored that the President will nominate our close friend and long-time member of our firm to be the next Commissioner of Internal Revenue.  Chuck is the person who can protect taxpayers’ rights, help improve taxpayer service, and oversee the modernization of the ailing IRS information technology infrastructure.  He is most capable to lead the IRS in its important mission of properly serving and protecting the rights of taxpayers and insuring the fair, efficient and impartial enforcement of our tax laws.  There is no more qualified nominee to lead the IRS and insure accountability at this very critical time for tax administration.  As a longtime, strong supporter for the integrity our system of tax administration, Chuck will hold both Government and private tax practitioners accountable to the public.  His ongoing efforts and concern for the fair treatment of all taxpayers have earned him tremendous respect throughout the Government and private tax practitioner communities.”

Co-founder of the Firm, Avram Salkin, stated “the Commissioner of Internal Revenue is one of the most important positions in our Government and having known and worked closely with Chuck for over three decades, I have been honored and privileged to watch him become one of the most respected tax lawyers in our country with impeccable integrity and judgment.”

Dennis Perez of the firm, stated that “Chuck will be sorely missed by all of us and I know it has been an extremely difficult decision for Chuck to leave what has been his home for his entire professional career.  However, this country and the IRS are deserving of his focused leadership and dedicated service and for that we are extremely proud of him and his strong commitment toward enhancing our system of tax administration.”

Steven Toscher further stated that “although irreplaceable within our firm, Chuck’s nomination will be a big win for taxpayers.  Our firm has a deep bench of highly talented tax lawyers with decades of broad-based tax related experience and we look forward to continuing to assist our clients in the most sensitive and important tax matters.  HOCHMAN SALKIN RETTIG TOSCHER & PEREZ, PC, is internationally recognized for excellence, integrity and the ability to achieve the best possible results for clients throughout the world. Our experienced tax lawyers have outstanding tax-related credentials and are routinely recognized as leaders in handling all aspects of sophisticated civil tax controversies and criminal tax matters.”

HOCHMAN SALKIN RETTIG TOSCHER & PEREZ, PC specializes in expediting favorable resolution strategies for administrative tax controversies and tax disputes with the federal, state and local taxing authorities, federal and state civil tax litigation, defense of criminal tax investigations and prosecutions, white collar criminal defense, and family wealth transfers, as well as business and tax planning.  The Firm routinely handles representations involving complex and sensitive issue tax examinations and administrative appeals, voluntary and “scorched earth” tax collection problems, responding to summonses and subpoenas, and trials and appeals before all Federal courts.  The Firm enjoys an extensive history of successfully resolving the most sensitive, complex tax matters for clients in the most efficient, cost-effective manner.
